Occasionally, I watch "America's Funniest Home Videos" with my kids. Between people falling down or crashing, babies being cute, and animals in dress up clothes, they sometimes have an "Assignment: America." They'll pick a theme and ask us, for example, to go out and get video of people dumping ice down somebody else's shirt.
I've got an "Assignment: NFC"…and I really think it'll be much more useful!
We want to celebrate how God is working through people here at NFC. Whenever people tell their stories, either in writing or on a Sunday morning, it's so helpful to others. The hardest thing for us as a staff is finding out who has a story they are willing to share-so I'd like to ask your help with this.
Your "Assignment: NFC" (should you choose to accept it) is this: Capture your fellow NFC attenders as God is working through them! Snap pictures of people at their workplace, where they are serving Jesus. Ask someone how God is at work in her home or neighborhood, and see if she'd be willing to write or speak about it to the rest of the church. Take video of someone as he is serving God through Love INC or volunteering in a school or teaching Sunday school. The possibilities are endless!
We hope several things will come from this: a slideshow we can use in worship, showing NFC people in all kinds of ways of serving God out in our community; people willing to share, in person or in writing, how they see Jesus working through them; perhaps even a video that would share several people's stories with the rest of us. We think all of these things will help us "spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Hebrews 10:24) and celebrate what God is doing in and through us!
So bring (or e-mail) your pictures and ideas and videos to the church office. (Of course, make sure you have the permission of the person you "captured" to share it with the congregation.) I think this is a great opportunity for us to be "investigative reporters" who bring the quiet ways NFC people are serving Jesus out into the open!
